What is Matcha?
Japanese Matcha tea is a fine powder made from green tea leaves. Tea cultivated specifically for Matcha is primarily grown in two Japanese regions: Uji in Kyoto and Nishio in the Aichi prefecture. Leaves are shade-grown, hand-picked, stemmed, dried and expertly ground into a fine powder.
Matcha Tea Prep
The process of preparing Matcha is a ritual steeped in history that was established by Zen Buddhist monks in the 11th century. To prepare, use the chashaku (spoon) to scoop a small amount of Matcha powder into your chawan (bowl). Add 8 ounces of hot (but not quite boiling) water to the tea bowl and whisk until the tea is frothy.
No traditional tools? No problem. Simply empty the Pure Leaf sachet of Matcha powder into a mug or bowl, add two ounces of hot water to blend and whisk until fully dissolved and there is a foamy layer on top. Add remaining six ounces of water, whisk to blend and enjoy.
